Preseason Recaps

On Thursday, September 19th there were seven NHL preseason games: there was Detroit at Boston, 7 p.m., Carolina at Buffalo, 7 p.m., NY Islanders at New Jersey, 7 p.m., Toronto at Ottawa, 7:30 p.m., Nashville at Tampa Bay, 7:30 p.m., Pittsburgh at Chicago, 8 p.m., and Minnesota at Winnipeg, 8 p.m. The first game was the Detroit at Boston game this was a pretty good game for the Red Wings. The final score was 8-2 Detroit. Detroit scored 2 points the first period than 2 points the second period and 4 points the third period. Detroit played every shift with a lot of energy. The next game was the Carolina at Buffalo game. The game was a good game for Buffalo. Buffalo won with a 5-2 win. Ryan Miller was in net and made some really good saves as well as let a couple past him. Both teams played a pretty good game, but Buffalo had the upper hand. The next game was the New York Islanders against the New Jersey Devils. The New York Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3. The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2. The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Nashville Predators 5-1. The next game that night was the Pittsburgh at Chicago game. This game was a disappointment because Chicago lost in a shootout. I really was hoping that Chicago would pick up a win, but that didn't happen due to the fact that Pittsburgh won 4-3 in a shootout. The final game on the 19th was the Minnesota at Winnipeg game. Minnesota beat Winnipeg 4-1 in a blowout of a game. Then on the 20th of September Chicago had another game and they set out to win it. They won this game 5-4 in a shootout against the Washington Capitals. There were a few more games on the 20th but I’ll get into that in the next blog!

The First Sabre's Preseason Game!

On Sunday the Fifteenth the Buffalo Sabres had their very first preseason game. It was not televised but it was aired on the radio. The Sabres played the Montreal Canadiens. The game went into a shootout and the Sabres won the game 5-4. The game was won by a shootout goal by Grigorenko. The Sabre's big players were not being put on the ice like Thomas Vanek, Cody Hodgson, or Ryan Miller. Jhonas Enroth was in net, and he let in a few goals that he shouldn't have, but he did alright for the first game. The team played pretty well for it being the first game. The Sabres game tickets for the preseason go as cheap as 6 dollars. In my eyes that’s a pretty good deal for someone who loves hockey, but they don’t love paying for the tickets. The sabres “farm” team is who played on Sunday night. They did pretty well for the team, but we won’t know how the team will be for the regular season because none of the main players were on the ice. I have a feeling that the team this year will be pretty solid. We might make the playoffs, but who knows what could happen. Maybe a few of the players could get married and lose their skills. For anyone who didn’t know that was a shot at Ryan Miller. Basically this is the start of the beginning of the Buffalo Sabres season. The first televised preseason game is going to be on Wednesday, September 25th. All the Sabres fans out there should be pretty excited for this day to come! I know that I’m excited. The Sabres games are always amazing to watch and they are full of energy and that about sums it up. The Sabres need to step their game up this year so they can finally bring home a cup.

Information about the NHL

So this blog entry I am going to talk about the history of the NHL this includes when it was founded, who the first teams were, a little bit about the Stanley Cup, and all the past winners.
To start the NHL was founded on November 26 1917. The National Hockey League was founded by Tommy Gordon. Tommy Gordon was born on June 9, 1886 in Ottowa, Canada.  The first team to win the Stanley Cup was the Toronto Arenas in 1918. This set the stage for all of the winners. The original six teams were the  Montreal Canadiens (founded in 1909), Toronto Maple Leafs (founded in 1917), Boston Bruins (founded in 1924), New York Rangers (founded in 1925), Detroit Red Wings (founded in 1921), and the Chicago Blackhawks (founded in 1926). These were the original teams and they are still around today. The Toronto Maple leafs were originally founded as the Toronto Arenas, and the Detroit Red Wings were first named the Detroit Cougars.
If it wasn’t for these teams I’m pretty sure that the NHL wouldn’t be what it is today. If you didn’t realize it most of the top teams now are the same as the original; six. These teams played their hearts out, and they put a lot of work in to be where they are today.
The Stanley Cup was named after Lord Stanley. The very first Stanley Cup was giving in 1893. The cup has been around through many sports, but the National Hockey League pretty much took over the cup. They are the only sports franchise that uses the cup, so in my eyes it’s theirs.
The most recent winners were the La Kings last year, and the year before it was the Boston Bruins, and the year before it was the Chicago Blackhawks. Those teams are the top teams every year.

Welcome To My Hockey Blog

This blog is going to be all about hockey. It’s going to be about all the team, new logos, new players, up and coming free agents. If you don’t like hockey than you shouldn’t be reading this blog because it’ll be a waste of your time. I have never played hockey in my life, but I love the sport. It’s fun to watch the games are always fun to go to and it’s also great to have a favorite team to cheer for and keep up with. I will probably focus on the Buffalo Sabres, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, and the LA Kings because these are my favorite teams. I will try and write a blog about almost all of the teams at least once. Hockey is a really big thing in Buffalo. I love hockey because it’s fast paced unlike football. Don’t get me wrong I really like watching football too, but hockey is more fun to watch because they don’t take breaks like football does. They don’t need to pick plays or change players with hockey they do this all while playing. The NHL always has a game going almost every night. The very first game is the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday October first. In my opinion that will be a good game and I feel like Toronto is going to take it 2-1. Remember that for when that game is on. Chicago plays on the First of October as well they are playing the Capitals. I would have to say that should be a good game. The Sabres first game is on the second of October and it’s against Detroit which should be a good game to watch! I’m favoring Detroit, but I’m pulling for the Sabres. Then LA’s first game is on the third against the Minnesota Wild.
